Yes,
RoboLab 2.9 has firmware for both the RCX and NXT. The confusion
often arises from the fact that there are two different pieces of
software to program the NXT - RoboLab 2.9 and the NXT software - and
each downloads different firmware into the NXT. Thus, you cannot download
a program to the NXT from RoboLab if your NXT has firmware from the NXT
software (RoboLab
will tell you you need new firmware). Similarly, you can't
download a program to the NXT from the NXT software if your NXT has
RoboLab firmware (the NXT software
will let you download the program but will give you an error when you
try to run it).
You can use both software programs for the same NXT, but you will
always have to re-download each program's firmware before using it to
control the NXT.
The RoboLab firmware allows a few more functions, such as data logging
and floating point math (you can now write out standard math equations
with parentheses and declare floating or integer variables). For more
information on how RoboLab 2.9 differs from LEGO Mindstorms NXT
software, see "What's New in RoboLab 2.9?" and "Software Comparison."
