What does it mean that the RoboLab 2.9 firmware is "100 times faster" than the old firmware?
Firmware is the RCX or NXT operating system software. It is to your RCX or NXT what Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, or any flavor of Linux is for your PC or Mac. Thus, it runs in the background as the platform for your user-written programs. Prior to the first time you program your NXT or RCX with RoboLab, you must download the RoboLab firmware onto your NXT or RCX. This takes about one minute for the NXT and about 5 minutes for the RCX.  Firmware that is "100 times faster" will not have a shorter download time.  Instead, faster firmware will allow each of your programs to run faster.  It is 100 times faster at translating your program into commands that can be executed by the RCX or NXT "brain."
